Pregnancy is one of the stages in a woman’s life when she experiences drastic physical, physiological, and psychological changes. Her body starts to bloat. Her belly begins to swell as the child inside her womb grows. She experiences mood swings because of many contributing factor such as hormonal fluctuations. She worries about her looks as most pregnant women do. She worries about the baby in her tummy. The excitement, anxiety, and worry that she has to deal with can be a grave source of stress, which should not be allowed to weigh her down too much. Too much stress during pregnancy can have disastrous effects on the growth and development of the fetus. A pregnant woman must learn how to relax and unwind.
Here are suggestions on how you can unwind during pregnancy.
Identify your pre-pregnancy relaxation techniques. Everyone has a set of relaxation strategies. When you become pregnant, these strategies do not necessarily stop working. You might want to continue using those unwinding strategies even during your pregnancy. Just make sure that a relaxation activity does not harm you or your baby.
Stretch and sweat. Certain forms of physical exertion, especially the heavily strenuous ones, are discouraged during pregnancy. Yet, sweating it out even while you are pregnant will greatly relieve stress and tension and will keep you fit. Exercises during pregnancy can also help maintain your body’s functions. Ask your doctor about what forms of physical activity you can perform during the various stages of your pregnancy.
Eat and drink well. During pregnancy, your body will have a nutritional requirement different from your usual. It is important that you eat the right amount and type of food, particularly fruits and vegetables, many of which have natural substances that can bring down stress levels. Water remains an important nutrient during pregnancy; so do not allow yourself to thirst. Lower the caffeine intake. Avoid drinking a lot of liquids before going to bed, though, so that you can avoid frequent visits to the bathroom during the night and disturb your sleep.
Get a massage. Especially if you get one after having a soothing bubble bath, gentle massage during pregnancy is another stress-reliever.
Indulge in leisure activities. Don’t stop doing your hobbies just because you are pregnant. Go ahead with your sketching, poetry writing, crossword puzzles, and romance novels. Continue your quilting, knitting, or cross-stitching project. Or, start a new hobby that interests you. Just make sure that the hobby will not endanger you or your baby. Leisure activities relieve physical stress and keep your mind focused.
Go away. Schedule a mini vacation. Go on a short trip to places you love or to new destinations.

Delegate chores
. Friends and family members will be eager to help you through your pregnancy. Especially during the last few months of your pregnancy, moving around will become a chore in itself. Ask your friends and family members to help you with the house chores and errands.
